Affordable Housing: Creating Community
When you know your neighbors, when you're watching out for each other, dining together, taking care of each other. Of the nearly-100 cohousing communities built in the U.S., most have pursued unique strategies for affordability, be it silent second mortgages, Habitat for Humanity partnerships, inclusionary zoning set asides, caps on appreciation or equity recapture upon resale. There are even some 100%-affordable communities built and under development.
